BC AIS Test 2000
PACMAR has made plans to continue testing of AIS during 2000, 2001 and 2002 and has formulated a "UAIS Initiative". One of the planned tests includes Cruise Ships from Holland America Line-Westours, Inc. (VOLENDAM) and Princess Cruises (SEA PRINCESS and REGAL PRINCESS) as well as the Canadian Coast Guard's Marine Communications and Traffic Service (MCTS) in Comox on Vancouver Island.

Tideland Signal Canada, which represents Marine Data Systems, has made transponders available for this test. The transponders are being connected to SEA PRINCESS' and VOLENDAM's STN Atlas ChartPilot/MultiPilot II. On REGAL PRINCESS the transponders are being connected to its Transas Marine 2500 NaviSailor ECS.

The test of AIS in British Columbia/Alaska that will be held in August/September of 2000 can best be described with an example of the Instructions the Master of  each participating ship (REGAL PRINCESS, SEA PRINCESS and VOLENDAM).

Here is a copy of the Instructions to the Master of SEA PRINCESS
